Horticulture Award Win

Horticulture Award Win

The Australian Worker’s Union has won a landmark industrial case that will soon guarantee all piece-rate farmworkers will be paid the minimum hourly rate. It’s a decision that will see the vast majority of farmworkers significantly increase their take-home pay and superannuation.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR ME?

As a farmworker you can still be paid as a piece-rate worker, but once the ruling comes into effect (expected later this year) you can’t be paid less than the award minimum hourly rates: $25.41 for casuals and $20.33 for full-time employees, and this is for every hour worked.

And there is nothing in the decision that will stop you – either a casual or full-time employee – earning more than these minimum hourly rates.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM BEING PAID CORRECTLY?

The AWU has offices around the country, with an expert legal team ready to help make sure members are being paid correctly and treated properly.

HOW CAN I JOIN THE AWU?

Joining the AWU is easy and cheaper than you think for casuals, and membership has many benefits including:
